Taking Steps To Have Your Car Towed Successfully

There aren't many things that are more frustrating than dealing with a car that has developed sudden and illusive problems. You might wonder how to stay safe on the freeway or where you should pull over. My husband has worked in the towing industry for many years, and I could tell you funny, scary, and confusing stories about decisions drivers have made for him in the past. I want to make the world a safer place for tow truck drivers, which is why I created this blog. Read on to learn interesting tips for roadside safety, so that you don't find yourself in the same situation I did.

2 Things To Do To Keep Yourself Safe While You Are Waiting For A Tow Truck

Breaking down on the side of the road can be a problem. If you break down you can call a towing company, roadside assistance, or some other option that will get a tow truck out to your location to take your car somewhere for repairs and you can be somewhere safer. While you are waiting, there are some things that you can do to make sure that you are visible to the driver of the tow truck so that they can find you as well as being visible to other drivers who are going down the road.

Provide GPS Info

If you have a GPS in your car or on your phone, you can use it to give the tow truck driver a much more precise location than you might otherwise be able to do. Not everyone pays attention to mile markers or cross streets, and not every road has mile markers or frequent cross streets, which means it can be really hard for you to tell the tow truck driver where you are. Telling them that you are somewhere on Highway 666 in between Bluetown and Greentown can mean that the tow truck driver can have a lot of distance to search for you, especially if those towns are very distant. So, give them the GPS info, if you have it.

Be Visible

Do things that will make sure that drivers will see you. For example, at night you want to make sure that your put your blinkers on. The lights in an odd place will pull the attention of the drivers passing you by and will make sure that notice you. Movement also helps. That doesn't mean that you should stand out by your car dancing around since that would be unsafe and could mean that you could get hurt. One way that you can add movement is to tie something on the antenna of your car, something like a ribbon, or strip of material. You could also use one of the side windows of your car and hang some material out of it, especially if it's oddly colored. The movement of the cloth will attract attention, as well the unexpected color.

Being safe while you are waiting for a tow truck is important. There are things that you can do that will help you with that, leaving your only problem being the wait for the truck to get to you. Check with companies like Darryll's Towing for more information.
